About Us at The Mix

How did The Mix come to be? That's a great story, so let's go back to the beginning, which was in 2020. There was a desire to create a new and upcoming neighborhood in Dilworth to build community and support small local businesses. This new area became the Rail District. The owners of the Rail District were beginning to find business for the new spaces, and the owner's niece approached him wanting to open up a home decor store. They thought that would be a good fit and incorporated antique finds into the store. When it was time to negotiate the lease, his niece decided owning a business wasn't for her, so Rick & Deb Halvorson opened the store under the name The Mix Picks & The Mix Decor. As the years went on, the store evolved. They decided to dissolve the antiques and focus more on the home decor, kitchen, kids & baby, and gifts. In 2023, Ashley (me) was brought on to make some changes. We revamped the selection and feel of The Mix to what it is today. In July 2026, The Mickelson family officially became the new owners of The Mix! We are so excited to continue to what has been and make it ours. Thank you for joining us on this journey!
